Loving God and my neighbor is all I am required to do.

Loving God and my neighbor is all I am required to do.
That we should love God supremely and love our neighbor as ourselves is certainly not in dispute. However, the question is, how do we show this love to God and to our neighbor?

Writes the apostle John, 'By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome' (1 John 5:2, 3, emphasis added).

Thus, if we profess love for God but refuse to obey Him, we're not really being truthful according to Scripture.

Consider a dad with two sons. The first son comes to him and says, 'Dad, I love you, but I cannot obey you.' A little later, the second son walks up and says, 'Dad, I love you, and I will try to obey you.'

Which son do you think truly loves his father? Most people would agree that the one who said he would try to obey his father is the truly loving son.

Well, we show our love to God in the same way. Keeping the first four commandments, which involve love for God, shows that our supreme affection is given to our Creator. Keeping the last six, which involve love for our neighbor, is also convincing evidence of our genuine love for God.

The Lord specifically started the fourth Commandment with REMEMBER. It's the only one started with that word.

@lornecarignan I find it contradicting when you said that a Christian led by the Holy Spirit will AUTOMATICALLY fullfill the law but doesnt need commandments to know how to love God and neighbors. If a Christian AUTOMATICALLY fullfills the law then he AUTOMATICALLY fullfills the commandments.

Also, Romans 13:9 "For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

That's clear in the bible and not just human reasoning saying that the 2nd tablet only restrains crude and lawless behavior and not true Christian love. Read it again.

God bless us all!

Have you ever thought perhaps the first 4 commandments is how we treat God. God is our spiritual neighbor. Idolatry is equated as spiritual adultery in the bible. Part of how we treat God is how we treat or flesh and blood neighbor hence why, "what you do to the least of these you've done them unto me" according to Jesus. It's all about how we treat God.
